Ephesians 1:22-23

22And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

After Jesus laid down His life in obedience to the Father's will, He conquered death and hell and rose victorious over the grave. Because of His sacrificial obedience, God gave Jesus a name above every name (Philippians 2:9-10). He is Lord over all. Everything is under His feet, which means all is under His absolute rule.

He is also head over all things to the church. Denominations have their superintendents or presidents, but all believers throughout time have one head, Christ Jesus. We are His body. The head directs every part in the way that is best. He should be our source of direction and purpose. While there are undershepherds called elders, they are servants of the head and serve the body in love, as the Great Shepherd directs (1 Peter 5:1-5).

Jesus is the fullness of God who fills all in all. God is present everywhere at once in time, space, and the spiritual realm. It is all of Him and for Him. The fullness of the invisible God is expressed in Jesus, our Savior and Lord.

Consider: Because Jesus is the head of the church, as His body we must continually seek direction from Him. Are you seeking direction from the One who has all things under His feet?
